Ten champagne coupes in hand-blown clear crystal, wheel-cut with grape clusters, pointed leaves and a trailing tendril around the upper bowl. Tap one and it rings, and holds the note.

Hand-blown, and the glass says so. Look down into the base and you will find seed bubbles caught in the thickness — trapped air that machine-pressed glass does not have. One bowl carries a small seed close enough to the surface to feel with a fingertip; it is part of the making, not damage, and there is no chip or crack anywhere in the set.

There are three bowl profiles here — four, four and two. On a set table they read as one service: the cutting matches, the scale matches, and the differences are the kind you only notice holding two side by side. Collected rather than factory-matched, which is how most people actually build a coupe shelf.

The coupe was the champagne glass for most of the twentieth century before the flute took over. It is also the right glass for a daiquiri, a sidecar, or anything served up.

Unmarked, as most cut glassware of this period is — decorating shops bought in blanks and cut them to order, and the maker’s name lived on a foil label. No maker is claimed.
