About The Salvaged Curator
I moved to Roseville six years ago with retirement in mind, and I retired in October 2025. Before I did, my older brother warned me that somewhere between six and twelve months in, I'd start wondering what I was going to do with myself. He was right. Thanks to him, I already had an answer.
It started with my next-door neighbor, who has a vintage booth in Jamestown. She introduced me to estate sales and thrift shopping, and I got hooked. Once my own home was decorated, I still wanted to keep finding these pieces: one of a kind, warm with age, full of character and stories. And the art. I love the art.
I love saving beautiful things from the landfill, and these days I shop pre-loved first for my own needs too. Lately I've fallen for auctions. The East Coast houses are wonderful, but shipping wipes out the margins, so I'm learning my way through the West Coast houses, where I can pick up in person.
Research is my favorite part. Tracing where a piece came from and who made it feels a lot like genealogy, which I'm also a big fan of.
The work is harder than I ever expected, and my brain is happy because there's always a new problem to solve. I set up a photo studio at home, learned to shoot art under glass without the reflection, and a $4 thrifted lazy Susan now makes my videos smooth.
For me, this is about enjoying beautiful things, keeping my mind engaged, meeting people, and feeling satisfied at the end of the day.
