Four small crystal cocktail coupes, cut with a band of elongated six-pointed stars running between fine ruled lines — the atomic motif that turns up on everything from barware to curtain fabric in the late 1950s. The pattern repeats a second time lower on the bowl, above a short knopped stem and a plain disc foot.
The decoration is cut on a wheel and left unpolished, giving it that soft frosted line rather than the flat grey of a sandblasted or printed design. On a glass this size that is a great deal of hand work, and it is what separates these from most of the atomic barware that survives.
Tap one and it rings, and holds the note.
Small by design — these are cocktail and cordial glasses, meant for something short and strong rather than a full pour.
Unmarked, as nearly all barware of this period is: the maker’s name lived on a foil label that came off in the first wash. No maker is claimed.
