Vintage Crystal Hock Wine Glasses — Set of 9, 7" Tall Slender Stems, Unmarked

A set of eight hock glasses — the tall-stemmed Rhine wine shape — in plain clear crystal. Small rounded bowl, a very long slender stem, a thin disc foot. No cutting, no etching, no decoration of any kind: the whole effect comes from proportion.

Blown rather than pressed, and it shows. The stem is drawn up into the bowl with no join line, and the foot is applied with a neat little collar. Tap one and it rings, and holds the note.

The long stem is doing a job, not just looking elegant — Rhine wines go to the table cold, and the height keeps your hand well away from the bowl. They work just as happily for any crisp white, or for an aperitif.

Unmarked. No backstamp, no acid etch, no remaining label — ordinary for stemware of this kind, which was usually sold with a paper label that came off in the first wash. No maker is claimed.
