A big hand-painted blue and white bowl, 12 inches across, sold by Williams-Sonoma and still wearing its original foil sticker on the base — MADE IN CHINA / WILLIAMS-SONOMA GRANDE CUISINE / SAN FRANCISCO CA 94120 — right next to the old store price tag reading $45.00.
The decoration follows Ming kraak porcelain. The inside rim is divided into alternating wide and narrow panels of flowers, fruit and scrollwork; the well holds a river landscape with pavilions, a bridge and birds overhead; and the outside wraps all the way around with pagodas, pines and hills in cobalt under the glaze. Under the foot is a four-character seal in blue — decorative, not a maker's mark.
12” across x 5.5” tall. No chips, cracks, crazing or restoration; the glaze is bright and the rim is clean the whole way around.
Circa 1980s–1990s.
