Vintage Folk Art Painting on Wood Cabinet Panel | Signed M. Lowery 1976 | Shovel & Fence Post Rustic Still Life
There's something quietly poetic about a piece of farmhouse still life caught mid-thought — a well-worn shovel resting against a wire fence post, a single wildflower blooming at its base, painted in warm earth tones directly onto a salvaged wood cabinet door. The raised-panel molding frames the scene like a window, and the wood grain itself becomes part of the composition, glowing through the thinner passages of paint.
This is genuine outsider/folk art: hand-painted, one-of-a-kind, signed and dated "M. Lowery, 1976" in the lower right corner. The artist doesn't appear to be a documented or collected name — this reads as a hobbyist or amateur folk painter's work rather than a recognized fine artist, and it's priced and described accordingly. What it lacks in provenance, it makes up for in charm and craft: this is exactly the kind of unpretentious, story-driven piece that feels at home in a farmhouse entry, mudroom, or gallery wall of collected finds.
Worth noting: this was painted on a repurposed wood cabinet door panel, not a purpose-made canvas — you can see the original hinge mortises and a hanging wire added on the back. That backstory is part of what makes it a genuine one-off rather than a mass-produced print.
