A matched pair of framed cartoon prints by American illustrator Robert Marble, each one hand-signed in pencil by the artist.
Marble drew anthropomorphic animals doing ordinary things badly, and a small red bird — his signature character — turns up somewhere in every picture. Here he is perched on the bench arm in one print and peeking out of the piano in the other.
1. "The Things We Do For Friendship" — a bear, a dog, a goat, a cat and a frog wedged onto one small park bench, with the redbird on the armrest.
2. "Jammin'" — an animal band in full swing: an alligator at the upright piano, a bear on washtub bass, a raccoon on trumpet, a turtle on guitar, and two mice dancing on the lid.
Both are framed alike in dark-grain oak with navy and cream double mats under glass, pre-wired and ready to hang. Each frame carries the artist's studio backstamp on the back, which dates the framing to 1991 or later.
