This striking mid-century Spanish decorative decanter features a heavy glass bottle completely wrapped in intricately hand-tooled, rich amber-brown leather. A stunning example of traditional Spanish leathercraft, the bottle utilizes a four-sided panel design to showcase both literary narrative and classical Renaissance artistry.
Two opposing sides depict iconic, relief-carved scenes from Miguel de Cervantes' masterpiece, Don Quixote. One panel captures the knight-errant on horseback, while the other dramatically illustrates his famous, chaotic clash with the windmills—showing Don Quixote upended on the ground as his horse, Rocinante, rears up, while his faithful squire, Sancho Panza, looks on from his donkey. The remaining two sides seamlessly frame these stories with beautiful, symmetrical Spanish Renaissance motifs featuring large acanthus leaf crests, stylized facing birds, scrolling floral borders, and heavily textured, stippled background tooling.
The decanter is topped with its original, matching square leather-wrapped stopper adorned with deeply carved floral scrollwork. Please note that this vintage item is intended strictly for ornamental display, bookshelf styling, or as a collector's piece, and should not be used to store or serve liquids.
